Marketing Myself? Ugh, The Struggle Is Real

Let me just say this: I really, truly, madly, deeply hate marketing for myself. When it comes to helping others? Sure, no problem! I’ll share all the links, spread the word, shout it from the rooftops. But when it’s my own work? Oh man, it’s a struggle. My last book (Love, Life, & Mental Illness), which I self-published on Amazon, was a prime example of all the mistakes you can make when you’re juggling creativity with the chaos of marketing. And the irony? I have a degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment from Full Sail University, where they practically beat marketing and networking into your head just as much as writing itself. Because let’s face it, the arts world is dog-eat-dog.

But finding the time to build a platform, make a brand, and create a social media presence for myself? Yeah, it’s a pain in the ass—and not the fun kind. It goes right back to my first post where I talked about living that paycheck-to-paycheck lower-middle-class life. Trying to find time between work, parenting, and all the chaos to convince people to care about what I’m saying is exhausting.

I get now why every YouTuber, TikToker, and Reels creator says, “like and subscribe.” But here’s the thing: word of mouth still matters, my dudes. Supporting local artists, writers, and small businesses isn’t just a feel-good thing—it’s how we thrive in a world dominated by mass production and corporate noise. So, if you enjoyed this post or think someone else might, please share it. Send it to a friend, post it on your socials—every share helps keep this dream alive. Thank you for spreading the word!

So yeah, marketing myself is tough—but I’m doing it, one awkward post at a time. Stick with me, and we’ll figure this out together.
